Place of Peace exhibition at Wahlberg’s Museum House

  • An exhibition on peace and its effects through the eyes of the people of Uusikaupunki is held at Wahlberg’s Museum House in Ylinenkatu. The exhibition will run through 22 October 2021.  

7 July–21 September Road to the Treaty of Nystad tours

  • A short walk around the sites where significant events took place. To celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Treaty of Nystad, the City of Uusikaupunki offers theme tours for citizens and visitors alike. 

6 July–31 August Peace-themed exhibition “Ihan rauhassa”

  • A theme exhibition on the anniversary of the Treaty of Nystad is held in the Gallery and Art Lending Horisontti. Incl. video studio, art events and coffee service. Open Tue–Fri from 1 pm to 5 pm and Sat from 10 am to 2 pm.

23 July–31 August Art and silverware exhibition at Cruselli

  • An art and silverware exhibition at Cultural Centre Cruselli’s Liljelund hall, assembled from Pentti and Anne Siivonen’s collections. Various works from Finnish artists and silverware dating all the way back to the 18th century. Open on weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm and during events held at Cruselli. 

9 August at 6 pm Kauppiaantalo culture salon: A salon both promiscuous and chaste – The Parisians Ninon de Lenclos and marchioness de Sévigné as ladies of the salon

9 August at 3 pm Teemu Keskisarja’s lecture

  • Historian Teemu Keskisarja’s lecture in Cultural Centre Cruselli. In the lecture, Keskisarja focuses on the status and fate of Finnish rank-and-filers during the land and sea battles of the Great Northern War. 

The lecture is arranged by the Uusikaupunki Maritime Historical Society and Vakka-Suomi Adult Education Centre. The lecture is open for all.

10 August at 6 pm Kauppiaantalo culture salon: Old-time musical salon – Lasse Lucidor, poet and cosmopolitan

11 August at 6 pm Church opera Ende und Beginn

  • The premier of composer Olli Kortekangas’ church opera in the New Church. The premier also serves as the opening ceremony for the Third Peace Symposium held in honour of the Treaty of Nystad’s 300th anniversary.

11–14 August Peace Symposium

  • The Peace Symposium of the anniversary brings the large audience and science experts around the theme of peace in Cultural Centre Cruselli. 

The event fuses different disciplines of science in interesting ways, e.g. demography, history, future research, peace and conflict research, cultural history and linguistics. You can find more information on the programming for the free event, which is open to all, on rauhansymposium.fi.

15 August at 3 pm Uusikaupunki Peace Committee event in Cruselli

  • “Looking for a safe future by applying experiences of the past.” Speaking at the lecture/presentation event will be Kari Laaksonen, Special Envoy Heikki Talvitie and Finnish Peace Committee Managing Director Teemu Matinpuro. Capping off the event is a concert starting at 6 pm, with a performance from Liisa Tavi and Arto Piispanen. 

25 August at 5 pm Kauppiaantalo culture salon: Tea and coffee salon 

  • A charming old-time tea and coffee salon in the unique milieu of the Kauppiaantalo hall. The salon programme includes stories from the 18th century tea and coffee culture. Pikko Arstila will be there to explain about tea. Entry fee 20/25 euros, incl. buffet service and programming. NB! Tickets are only sold in advance.   • In the Old Church, pastor Esko M. Laine will transport you to the atmosphere of a church service from the times of the Treaty. 

29 August at 4 pm Schola Cantorum Aboensis vocal group’s concert in Kalanti Church

30 August 2021 Treaty of Nystad’s 300th anniversary and declaration of school peace

  • at 2 pm Announcing and awarding the Peace award 

  • at 5 pm–6 pm Road to the Treaty of Nystad – a guided peace-themed tour on foot, starting from Pakkahuone
